‘The area of Mujahidin’s influence has expanded’says Mulla Aminulla, the Jihadi leader of Farah Province

Farah province is situated in the west of Afghanistan. In the west of this province, the neighbouring country, Iran is situated; in the north, Herat province; in the south, Nimroz province and in the east, the suburbs of Helmond and Ghor provinces are situated. This province mostly comprises of sand and desert areas. It has very few populated areas; therefore the total population estimated as 458,500 persons is quite less as compared to the 48,471 sq. km. area of this province. In addition to the central city, Farah province has more than ten districts. Their names are as follow:

Bala Buluk, Gulistan, Pusht-Road, Bakwa, Anar-Dara, Pur-Chaman, Khak-i-Safaid, Qala-i-Kah, Lash-o-Jaween, Shaib Koh and Farah-Road.

Introduction of the Jihadi leader of this province:

Mulla Aminullah Akhunzada is the resident of Spin-Boldak district of Kandahar province. He has started his religious studies in the mosque of the village from his early childhood. After the completion of primary education, he travelled to various Madrassas inside Afghanistan as well as to the Madrassas of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces in Pakistan. After the completion of pre-graduation level, he could not continue his studies and spent his remaining life in the service of Jihad. He had served in the military front lines of Takhar, Badghis, Bamyan and Ghorband areas during the reign of the Islamic Emirate. He has also shouldered various other responsibilities. After the American invasion over Afghanistan, he continued his armed struggle and in the previous nine years, he has served as the general in-charge of Boldak and Shorawak districts and as the general in-charge of Kandahar province and has performed the sacred responsibility of Jihad. For the last few years, he has been assigned with overall Jihadi responsibility of Farah province and, till today, he is busy with this assignment.

Question: If you could provide us the information about the recent changes in Farah province?

Answer: During last year and in the recent months, very positive changes have taken place in Farah province. These changes have boosted the spirit of Mujahidin and on the contrary, the morale of the enemy has fallen down to the lowest level.

The most important change is the practical abscondence of foreign forces from this province. You might be aware that in the past, the American, Italian and Danish forces had a wide spread presence in the centre as well as all other districts of this province. They had built up very strong and concrete bases in different areas and were always engaged in fighting with Mujahidin.

But during the span of last year, the foreign forces have fled from all other areas with the exception of the centre of Farah province and Farah Road district. They have left their concrete bases empty or have demolished them. In the centre and Farah Road district, they have only one, one base where they cannot resist, in anyway. With the start of spring operations, we hope that, Insha-Allah, these remaining two bases will also be wiped out.

With the abscondence of Americans, a great change has been witnessed in Farah province. The areas have been completely freed. Khad-i-Sapaid, Bala-Buluk, Pusht-i-Road, Farah-Road, Gulistan, Bakwa and other districts are completely freed with the exception of their centers where only a few buildings are in the control of the enemy. Mujahidin can freely move wherever they want and no trace of invasion is visible anywhere.

Question: You mentioned the liberation of several areas in Farah province, if you could provide us a bit detailed information that from which areas the foreigners have evacuated and how much area is conquered?

Answer: In the last few months, 3 bases of the foreigners have been evacuated in Bakwa district. Similarly, one base of the mercenary army has also been evacuated. In Bakwa district, the enemy is restricted to the centre only. The main Herart-Qandahar high way, which passes through this district, is under the supervision of Mujahidin now. Mujahidin can block this high way for the enemy whenever they want and the enemy cannot cross it easily with contentment.

Two huge bases of the foreigners and two bases of the internal soldiers have been removed from Bala-Buluk district. In this district too, only a few check posts are left in the centre and on the road sides, the remaining areas are completely free. Overall four bases of the foreigners have been evacuated in Khak-i-Sapaid, Farah-Road and Pusht-i-Road districts. The control of the enemy is confined only to the centers. At present, only in Farah Road district, one American base is left. The foreigners have completely evacuated the Gulistan district as well, and the internal soldiers are besieged there. Food stuff is provided to them by air. We are hopeful that in the forthcoming spring, Insha-Allah, these areas will be conquered and freed from the enemy.

The eastern district of Farah province, Pur-Chaman, which was under the control of a former warlord, named Mohammad Saleem, who was a very wicked person and had not surrendered even in the previous reign of the Islamic Emirate and had always resisted, this detrimental commander was killed by Mujahidin, sometime ago. This brought a great change in Pur-Chaman district and Mujahidin have openly started their activities there. The Americans had no presence in the western districts of Farah province i.e. Anar-Dara, Qala-i-Kah and some others areas which are lying on the border with Iran, so there were no strategic targets for Mujahidin in these districts and we have no concern regarding these areas.

Question: The Americans have built military bases in some areas of Afghanistan to find their supporters in the region by the name of Arbakis (a local tribal security setup) and regional police force which could perform their role after their evacuation. Whether in Farah province, after the American abscondence, their place or role has been taken by the internal soldiers or Arbakis?

Answer: No. In the whole of Farah province, they had only arranged a number of Arbakis in the suburb of the centre of Farah province but there is no specific problem in the districts. They tried their best in the last few years to arrange Arbakis in the above mentioned areas and deploy them in the villages, but the common people opposed this program and no one supported them. They took very harsh measures in this regard, even they imprisoned more than 70 aged people and tribal chieftains for this purpose in Shewan area of Bala Buluk district who did not supported their program of Arbakism. They severely annoyed the people in other areas as well, but could not incline them to hold the gun and fight against Mujahidin, therefore they got disappointed. In Farah province, only in one area of Bala Buluk district, they managed some Arbakis, but after the withdrawal of the Americans, all of them joined Mujahidin, they handed over tens of light and heavy weapons, one tank and a few ranger type vehicles to Mujahidin. In other areas of Farah province, the process of surrender of the enemy personnel has accelerated after the withdrawal of American forces. In the last few months, overall, more than hundred people have left the enemy ranks and have joined Mujahidin through the program of Invitation and Guidance. In Farah province, after the American abscondence, the areas have fallen to the hands of Mujahidin and by the grace of Allah Almighty, with the exception of the centre, the problem of Arbakis is found nowhere in the whole province.

Question: How were the Jihadi activities in Farah province in the year 2012 and what is your estimation for the future?

Answer: In the previous year of 2012, the Jihadi operations were more successful than our expectations. This was the year of great victories and conquests. Prior to this, the people as well as Mujahidin were facing a lot of problems in Farah province because the presence and operations of the Americans and other invaders were wide-spread. But in the year 2012, the Americans started fleeing. A lot of their bases were evacuated from Farah province. I would like to say that today the common people and Mujahidin of Farah province, both are in good condition as compared to previous five years. Most of the areas are freed and the shadow of occupation has been removed from the people. The era of raids, brutalities, bombing and search operations have seized in most of the areas. The morale of Mujahidin is higher than ever before. They are preparing themselves for the forthcoming year even from now; while the enemy is in the worst condition. They have lost the courage of fighting and resistance; they are only defending themselves. The personnel of the enemy are surrendering one by one. The enemy has been confined to their bases. Since our previous year operations were quite successful therefore heavy losses were inflicted on the enemy and we did not suffer any substantial loss throughout the year. We hope that by the grace of Allah Almighty, the forthcoming year will also be the year of victories and conquests. Mujahidin will be triumphant by the support and assistance of Allah more than their expectations. Insha-Allah.

Question: You said that most areas of Farah province have been freed; has there any setup of the governmental institutions taken place?

Answer: You know that the Islamic Emirate has a complete and weighed setup and governmental system. It has judicial, educational, invitation and guidance and supervision or surveillance commissions apart from military commission. In Farah province, the above mentioned setup is present in all areas. Moreover we have made up councils comprising of the tribal chiefs and religious scholars with the consent of the people in most areas. These councils are resolving the issues and problems of the people on local level and also give good counsels to Mujahidin. In this way all the affairs are managed through mutual understanding.

Because of this understanding and cordial relations with the people, we have managed to provide peaceful circumstances of life for the people. Farah province, which was once considered the centre of looting, robbery, kidnap and other crimes during the reign of the mercenary government, now the people of this province are living in complete security under the control of Mujahidin. The thieves have absolutely disappeared. They have been captured and penalized by Mujahidin with the collaboration of the masses wherever they (the thieves) are found.

Only the centre of Farah province and its adjacent areas are reported to be the witness of robberies and other criminal acts on the daily basis. In these areas, the Arbakis and police are in power and both of them have made the life of the people unbearable for them. Similarly, the national security chief of Farah province, named Samad Khan, is a former communist and according to our information, he has a special network of looters and kidnappers. They kidnap the children of businessmen and well off people in the central areas of Herat and Farah provinces and then release them for ransom. Their activities are going on only in the areas which are under the control of the government. They can never dare theft or kidnap in the areas under the control of Mujahidin.

Question: A few months ago, it was said that the Americans have severely damaged the cultivations and orchards of common people, if you could provide us information in this regard?

Answer: Yes. Shewan area of Bala Buluk district, situated near the main highway, is considered to be a significant area of Mujahidin’s influence. The convoys of the enemy always came under severe attacks in this area and heavy losses were repeatedly inflicted on them. The Americans and their internal stooges, for whom the Herat-Qandahar highway has a vital significance, were fed up with Mujahidin attacks in this area. They carried out several operations in this area but in vain. Eventually they launched a barbaric program over there. They wanted to demolish all the houses, orchards, fields and cultivations of the people lying on both sides of the road so that Mujahidin could not take an ambush from there. For this purpose, they brought heavy equipments including bulldozers and other facilities to this area in the month of February. They started building wide roads and ditches in the densely populated areas of Shewan. Many orchards, fields and brooks of the people were destroyed. They wanted to bring a public disaster for their security as they did in Zairee and Panjwai districts of Kandahar province. But, later on, they were resisted by the public and Mujahidin together. Several successive and successful attacks were carried out against them which compelled them for retreat and their deliberated plan was left incomplete.
