More than 60 persons were killed in the clashes Lawdar, Abyan province between Ansar Al-Sharia and the Yemeni army and tribesmen. In a press release, which issued late last night, Ansar Al-Sharia confirmed that ‘more than 50 mercenaries from the committees of Lawdar and army were killed as result of the clashes that erupted between them and Ansar Al-Sharia who launched a large-scale attack against the city to seize it once again after they were driven out from it ten months ago’.
Also the press release acknowledged that four of the mujahidin were martyred and 16 other were wounded, and they confirmed that they ‘seized huge amounts of heavy, medium and light weapon, including four tanks, three DC launchers, B-10 rocket launchers, 23 antiaircraft, and a large number of military sets, including two armored sets’.
Also Ansar Al-Sharia clarified that ‘the mujahidin succeeded in controlling the outskirts of the city after they took over three military locations of the 111th brigade and seized the weapons in them’. They also denied withdrawing to outside the city and confirmed that their forces succeeded imposing a strong siege on the city as a preparation to enter it and clean it from the remaining mercenary elements of the Committees.
And Ansar Al-Sharia stated that they ‘confronted a military campaign that came from 111th brigade after severe clashes which resulted in a large number of dead and wounded in the ranks of the soldiers of the Sana’a regime, who remained of them have fled leaving their weapons to the mujahidin as booty, Alhamdulillah’.
Also in another press release, Ansar Al-Sharia declared that ‘they have shelled with artillery the locations of the army and the Popular Committees in the outskirts of Lawdar’. They clarified in the statement that they used they heavy weapons that they seized from the 111th brigade, and notified that they targeted barricades where snipers are stationed in them.
And they confirmed that the American drones have participated with the Yemeni warplanes shelling their locations which led to the death of five martyrs, and they stated that there are news about the death of Omar Hadad the military commander of Popular Committees as well as the death of three and injury of 10 due to shelling their locations in the city.
In a related context, Ansar Al-Sharia have adopted in a press release the operation on the Shaykal military post that killed 15 soldiers in the province of Marib. They stated that ‘the attack occurred at 5:15 am on the newly created post on the Marib – Saafir - Hadramout road, and they used light and medium weapons, and the clash continued for 30 minutes, and ended with killing of the soldiers and seizing of a military set, b-10 gun, and some AK-47s’.
Later Ansar Al-Sharia said in a press release that it has released 5 of the army prisoners who were captured in the operation on Shaykal military post in Marib.
